We were brought in by Robson Brown to design and develop a Flash game designed to help promote getting a good nights sleep and looking after your mattress on behalf of the Sleep Council.
The Sleep Council is a public service body that aim to educate people on the benefits of getting a good nights sleep and offering advice and tips on how best to achieve this.
Our aim with "Whack a spring" was to build a fun, lighthearted game that is easy to pick up and that carries with it throughout the clients message of needing to look after your mattress. The game was also to record high scores and enter the user into a competition to win a new bed.
The "whack" format is a familiar one to anyone who as visited a fun fair and it works nicely with the concept of a worn out mattress popping springs. We also tied this to an icon of the would-be sleepers face which, as the user misses more springs, gets more tired and worn out!
The game is essentially un-winnable, getting fast and faster until the user loses. This really drives the point home that ultimately if your mattress is old and worn out you really need to replace it in order to achieve that good nights sleep. The further the user gets, the higher their score and the better chance they have of winning that new bed.
This is a great example of using Flash to create an engaging and fun experience to communicate a message and get people involved.
